SP4 and first things

Well, looks like the substantive update is going to have to wait until next week. I'm leaving in about 15 minutes to head down to Eugene for the weekend, and I won't have computer access while I'm there. Before I go, I do want to help out my soon-to-be-named SP4 pal by posting a pointer to the SP3 Questionnaire that I filled out a few months ago... it started here, with the last few questions covered here. I do have some more/updated info for some of the questions now, which I'll post early next week.

I also wanted to catch up on a meme that's almost over, the 100 things lists. I started writing mine a while ago, and I'm finally going to get around to posting it. I'm going to do it in chunks of 20 or so to make it more palatable.

100 things about me, part 1
1. I am a Gemini.
2. I'm quieter than the average Gem, but otherwise I fit the type pretty well.
3. I have always really liked personality tests, horoscopes, and the like... but never gotten into them enough to know much about types other than my own.
4. I got very ill immediately after eating Thai food the first 3 times I had it. I then avoided it completely for over 10 years.
5. I got adventurous and tried it again in April of 2002, and not only did I not get sick, I loved it. I've been making up for lost time ever since.
6. My high school extracurriculars included band (marching and concert), jazz choir, the literary magazine, quiz bowl, and science team.
7. I was the president of the science team, and medalled in a national competition.
8. Yes, I am a nerd/geek. I've been proud of that status for years.
9. I missed my senior prom, because I was attending the aforementioned national science competition
10. I still think I had more fun at the competition (which had a dance of its own) with all of my friends, than I would have at the prom.
11. In high school, one of my friends figured out that you could make our HP graphing calculators beep at different pitches by inputting the frequency you wanted. So, we grabbed a physics textbook with the appropriate info and all (about 10 of us) programmed our calculators with a 2 or 3 octave range of musical notes. Then, we pulled out our sheet music from band and started programming in the songs. And we thought this was fun.
12. We also thought is would be a good idea to show this achievement off to our math and band classes. Nobody else was all that impressed.
13. I got a 1560 on my SAT.
14. I don't like telling people this, and will generally dissemble if the subject comes up, because I don't want to be seen as showing off. It did get me some nice scholarships, though.
15. I have always loved crafting.
16. We still have christmas ornaments I made with my mom when I was 3.
17. Some of them are really ugly.
18. I liked brown a lot when I was little... Sytrofoam bells painted brown, with scattered sequins, are not very festive.
19. I have a deep dislike for pale pink... I do, however, have a growing love for fuchsia/magenta.
20. I don't really like most pastels, particularly for my clothing.
21. I never wear all black. I love color, and feel out-of-whack when I'm not wearing any.

Hi Shannon! I'm the Miriam who made the journal that you won from Harlotland. Do you have any special shipping instructions? Like... do I need to make a package dog proof or waterproof or anything like that?

Thanks,
Miriam

That calculator thing sounds great - definitely something my "Proud Geek" son Dylan would get into. :) Have fun with SP4! I know whoever gets you as the "giver" will be one lucky gal(guy?). :::Grin:::

1560? Sheesh. ::::Slinking off to join the "under-1500" crowd. And no, I won't get any more specific than that. :::wink:::

Hey! Wait! That was on the "new" SAT, right? I get to add oodles of points 'cause I took the "old" test. Cause, you know, I'm ancient. hehehehe

Whew! I feel better now.

Felting Party

On Friday night, I went to the old apartment and had a packing/felting party. I managed to pack up the dishes and china, and the rest of the books, and create some great new FOs. First off, the K1F2 Classic Cloche before: and after: I also have a pic of it on but I look horrible in this pic, so if you click, please ignore my face and just look at the fabulous hat. I'll be making another of these very soon, as my mom really liked it and has requested one in a solid chocolate brown. I also felted Liam's Koala - now I just need to put on the eyes and restuff it: The white yarn I got for this (Sandnes Alfa, from the sale area at a LYS) is a wool/mohair blend and didn't say anything on the band about beiung superwash, but it didn't felt at all. Fortunately, I think the bit of texture it added works pretty well for the detail areas. And my new tarot card bag, which shrunk to about half its original height, and 2/3 the width, ending up the perfect size for my deck. (Swatch, smatch!) I have one more thing to felt, the cover design from the Knitter's dozen bags book, but I need to sew it together first. I've gotten back into making my commissioned jewelbox scarves (endless boring stockinette on fiddly ladder yarn - they are gorgeous but a pain in the ass.) I also am really itching to get started on a sweater, and I'm scoping out yarns to do so... Lots of non-knitting content to cover, plus more knitting related as well, but I have a meeting to get ready for, so once again, it will wait. --------

Ack!

I can't believe I haven't posted yet this year! Time to get cracking... Oh, the joys of living in Portland - this weekend we were iced in under an inch of freezing rain (with my aunt, uncle, 4, 8, and 18-year old cousins, plus the 18-year old's girlfriend all visiting from Colorado). Sunday it warmed up just enough to thaw... then in the middle of Monday night, the temperature went up 15 degrees in one hour, and we've been in the 60s since! Nothing too extreme... In Knitting news, I have gotten quite a bit done... I finished the koala for my baby cousin (I gave up on the christmas idea, he's going to get it for his birthday in April). It's currently waiting to be felted and stuffed, and looks like this: I've also made a number of little bags: These are the first of many. The larger one is going to be felted, as well. The smaller one is done and currently serving as a case for my Power Cards deck, although the flap is a bit too short and I want to add to it somehow. These are both knit from the Tahki Shannon I got at the Lint sale last summer. I got one ball in this colorway, and 2 or 3 in blues. I LOVE this yarn, and want more more more. I love the color variations and the subtle but interesting pooling (you can't tell from this photo, but the smaller bag has very subtle swirls of the darker purple that spiral around it). I'm gonna have to keep on the lookout for more! I also made a rune bag for my friend Sheryl's birthday, that I forgot to take a pic of before I gave away, and another little pouch for myself. With the exception of the larger bag that I'm felting, I've been using the double-sided stockinette technique I used to make the sweater ornaments, then splitting the sides as I cast off (Knit where you'd normally knit, but put the slipped stitch on a holder, and the 2 sides are then separated). Fun, quick projects! I also made up some quick novelty scarves out of stash for my aunt and 2 little-girl cousins while they were out here - being iced in makes for a lot of knitting time- forgot to take pics of those, too, but I may be able to get her to send me one of them being modeled. Finally got around to the Classic Cloche from Knit One Felt Too - that's awaiting felting as well (and also un-photographed as yet). My parents have a front-loading washer, so I'm going to make a trip over to my old apartment (which we still have thought neither of us is living there) soon to pack and have a felting-party! Hmm... lots more to say, but I should really head home, so it will have to wait. --------
