Yet Another Quick Update
Just wanted to say I'm still alive - babysitting my sister while my parents and grandparents are in Las Vegas for New Years. Here's a pic of my most recent FO, as well - ornaments I made as christmas gifts. For more details, check the gallery!Posted by Shannon at 01:25 PM | Comments (0)

Quick update
Life is crazy right now - here are the highlights, in brief form:- D is leaving, and I'm moving in with my parents for a while... feeling sad and hurt, and also a big sense of relief at knowing what's going on so that I can move forward.
- I've started working with a wonderful career counselor to get into a job I'll love - hoping to get back into higher ed student services.
- Lots of holiday stuff of course, especially now that I'm staying with my parents... making gifts, planning to bake cookies and decorate the house, going to zoolights tonight, etc...
- Spending lots of time with friends - I've been feeling really loved and supported by my friends, to the point that I've been pretty shocked. It's nice.
- At work, we've had the entire department in an on-site class all week, so I've spent almost no time at my computer. I am *so* behind on blog reading! ;-)

I am Geekicus!
I watched the last half of the VH1 "My Coolest Years: Geeks" show last night and I really enjoyed it. Wil Wheaton was great on it (the title to this post is a quote from him). I have always been a proud geek/nerd, and sooo much of that show rang true (though definitely not everything.) I'm currently working on my 100 things list, and I've had some great ideas of my own geek stories to add to the list, so you'll get to hear them soon. I got my hair cut and colored last night - I love getting a professional dye job (this time: a weave with dark red and golden tones), but I am seldom willing to dish out the money. I spent part of my holiday bonus on this, and I am really happy... Maybe I'll actually invest in keeping it up! (sorry, no pics... yet, at least). I also started on the 3rd skein for my rockstar scarf last night. I was planning to go to knit night at Lint, but I started work at 5am yesterday, and I was just too damn tired. I ran a few errands, but forgot to grab what I needed to do half of them (like the DVDs I was going to return)... by the time I got home from that I decided I was *this close* to being dangerous, and should stay home. On the upside, I've finally gotten used to the yarn enough that I don't have to tink back half of every row to fix a split stitch. I may go to the stitch and bitch at Knitting Bee tonight, or I may go to the knitting meetup tomorrow night. I'd love to do both, but since I'll be out of town this weekend I have too much other stuff to take care of. And I saved this one for last because if I put it first you might forget to come back... Here's a fun little winter-time diversion: Create a Snowflake. Some of them are quite amazing. Here's my first:Posted by Shannon at 02:21 PM | Comments (0)

Saved by the Blog
Yep, the place I thought of checking while writing my blog entry yesterday was, in fact, the location of my camera! Whew. So now I can update you all with actual pictures! First off,I want to do the SP3 reveal. A big thank you to Tess, who finished off by sending me a Christmas CD by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. The pal that I have been spoiling is Bron (go check her out, she's awesome) - and it's so nice to finally be able to add her link to my sidebar! I've had a lot of fun with SP3, and I'm pretty sure that I'll be signing up for the next one (though what with possibilities of moving, changing jobs, etc during the first part of the year, I may end up being too busy...) Okay, picture time! I've posted pictures of the completed armwarmers in the FO Gallery, but since the second doesn't look a whole lot different than the first,I'm not going to post it here... However, I will show you the angora scarf I'm making for my mom (described in the last entry):- magic scarf (Christmas gift for sister)
- felted koala (Christmas gift for baby cousin)
- felted koala or llama (Christmas gift for sister... not sure if I'll get to this one, but she's getting plenty from me anyway)
- Christmas ornaments (gifts for grandparents and aunt & uncle)
- felted cloche in burnished copper (need to get the pattern book from the library for this one...)
- alpaca scarf (for me... I made one, then sold it, and need to replace it)
- brown scarf with trendsetter blossom (same deal as the alpaca scarf)
- at least 6 more jewelbox scarves, and 4 jewelbox ponytail ties (I have that many already ordered by friends)
- leather tie cardi from hollywood knits (I got the yarn for this months ago, but it's been taking a back seat to knitting for the craft fair and gifts)

Update
This craft addict hasn't been confessing much lately, it seems. Between getting ready for the holidays (including lots of gift and sale knitting), working with/on my currently very shaky relationship, work, and all the rest of my life, this has sorta slipped onto the back burner a bit - but I'm not giving it up! It also doen't halp that I cannot seem to find my digital camera (this has me more than a bit concerned!) - although while typing that I just thought of a few more good places to check - wish me luck! Alas, with no camera, there can be no pictures, so this will be a text-only entry, at least to begin with. I finished my brown armwarmers, and have been wearing them around pretty much daily (love love love). And, I felt even better about them after seeing a pair of very similar brown and orange felt armwarmers recommended in the Oregonian's gift guide yesterday... for $60! I've also finished 3 commissioned scarves, with another one about halfway done. The day-after-thanksgiving saw me heading over to craft warehouse - the only big craft store I've seen with a decent yarn selection... they carry berocco, trendsetter, tahki/stacy charles, filatura di crosa (and probably some other brands I'm forgetting) along with the craft store standards (lion, caron, bernat, etc...) Their yarn prices aren't any better than anywhere else, generally, but they had a 40% off anything coupon for friday afternoon (they had morning coupons, too, but i was elsewhere). So, Imade 2 trips through, and got some berocco optik in Tiffany for a scarf for myself. I wanted to get some other things done before I started making something formyself, but I've been coveting the optik for a while now, and I just couldn't resist its siren song. I'm now about 2/3 of the way through my second of 3 skeins, in what I'm calling my rockstar scarf. I've gotten over halfway on the angora scarf I'm making my mom for xmas (anny blatt angora super that I got on sale at Lint this summer... I'm knitting it in stockinette/reverse stockinete stripes with a garter border, and it looks like it'll be short enough that I'm going to want to make it a keyhole scarf.) The angor a super yarn is making this project go a bit slower, as I simply have to periodically stop and pet the WIP. Okay, well, I'm writing this at work, and I need to go home, so I'll have to cut it off here... more to come soon, including my SP3 reveal - hopefully with pictures! (send camera-finding vibes, please!) --------Posted by Shannon at 04:10 PM | Comments (0)
