Let's get started

I'm never quite sure how to start off a new blog, but I suppose introductions are as reasonable a way as any to begin... I'm Shannon, a 25-year-old craft addict living in Portland, OR. I've recently taken the plunge (with both feet) into knitting, and I've set this blog up primarily to chronicle that (taking my place among the nearly innumerable ranks of knit bloggers). However, as I am pretty involved in a number of crafts, I am calling this a craft blog and reserve the right to post about any of my creative endeavors. As far as the knitting goes, I actually taught myself the basics a few years ago, but was sticking to cheap, basic yarns because I thought it would be easier/better to learn that way. Trouble is, I didn't like they yarns, so I was uninspired to complete anything! I got a few inches in to a few basic scarves, then left them alone, and eventually my knitting goodies all got shoved to the back of the craft closet. A few weeks ago, I suddenly decided that I wanted to give it another shot - and this time the knitting bug bit hard. I got some fun yarn this time, and have so far finished three scarves and begun work on some things that aren't just long expanses of garter stitch. Here are some pictures of my completed handiwork thus far: Purple Muppet Pelt Scarf. I've had an irrational love for fuzzy fabrics in unnatural colors for a long time. I am the proud owner of a black furry ottoman (OK, not so unnatural a color, but it's furniture... that's different), a big red furry pillow, a multicolored fuzzy steering wheel cover, and more... Around my house, these are called my muppet pelts. And here's the first muppet pelt that I've made myself! Made from Bernat Boa, I only bought one skein, so it's a bit short. This was my first completed knitting project. Falling Leaves Scarf. My take on the long, skinny scarf craze... the picture really doesn't do this justice. Made with Berocco Moasic FX in Armani Mix. I love the colors and the lightness of this, and ladder yarn makes an awesomely funky fringe. I'm wearing this today - here's a picture of me modeling it (hastily taken in the bathroom mirror, so don't expect too much...) Bluesy Scarf. Basic garter stitch...made with Lion Brand Homespun, this will be a gift for either my mom or Grandma, depending on what else I make between now and christmas. The blue is actually a lot richer in person than this hastily-taken shot shows. I want to add either fringe or some extra fuzziness or something at the ends, but I haven't decided what yet, so I'll leave it as is until I make up my mind. --------
